Tired before it gets hot
Most people think of heat safety as avoiding the hottest part of the day. That's part of it. But the real goal is simpler: have the dogs tired before it ever gets hot.
Those who stay the night get a morning walk while the ground is still cool. By the time noon arrives, your dog is already deep into what feels like a long, full day — but in the best way. Some food, a nap, and they find their own calm pace through the rest of the afternoon.
For those who arrive later in the day
Those who arrive a little later find their release through other means. Sniffs, treats, play, and time with the pack. The pool is there for the ones who want it. Not every dog takes to water, but every dog gets what they need.
What owners don't expect
Many owners tell me how active their dog is. Then they see the WhatsApp update: their dog, flat out, sleeping with the pack.
I've walked dogs through six Algarve summers. The thermometer tells me when we go out. The dogs tell me everything else.
Have a dog in Portugal? Tell me about them.
